A vascular ultrasound provides clear insight into the blood circulation in your arms and legs, while also checking for blockages. A noninvasive test, the vascular ultrasound does not require any needles, dyes or radiation.

What to expect:

There is no special preparation required for the test.
You will lie on a padded exam table. A small amount of gel will be applied to your skin over the area that is to be examined. An ultrasound technician will place a device called a transducer over the gel-covered area. This transducer will produce images on the ultrasound screen. A vascular ultrasound takes about 45 minutes from start to finish. Upon completion of the test, the gel will be wiped off and you will be free to immediately resume normal activity.
